LIAA attends the National Planning Conference in Seattle
|APA Conference Session|
In late April, LIAA had the opportunity to attend and present at the 2015 American Planning Association Annual Conference in Seattle. The overall theme of the national planning conference centered on sustainability.
Community Planner, Claire Karner, participated in a conference session focused on Planning for Climate Change in Coastal Communities. While the two other presenters in this session focused on saltwater coastal communities, LIAA had the opportunity to discuss efforts that coastal Michigan communities are undertaking to increase resilience in response to changing Great Lakes climate conditions. The presentation detailed LIAA’s Resilient Michigan project, highlighting the public planning process, the vulnerability assessment tool, and actions these local communities are undertaking to increase resilience and respond to changing climate conditions.
